The 5th Annual Purple Runway Addresses Domestic Violence

The annual philanthropic fashion runway event expands, hosting a summit to provide mental and emotional health resources for survivors presented by iTHRIVE Sisterhood.

(September 20, 2019 - Arlington, VA) --  Gigi McMillian, Founder of Purple Runway who is a survivor of childhood sexual assault and domestic violence celebrates the 5th Annual Purple Runwaya philanthropic runway event providing mental and emotional health awareness for domestic abuse survivors. This year, Purple Runway will host its First Annual BreakThrough Summit presented by iTHRIVE Sisterhood, Purple Runway’s sister organization on October 20, 2019, at the Mercedes  Benz of Arlington (585 N Glebe Rd., Arlington, VA 22203).

On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States. During one year, this equates to more than 10 million women and men,  according to the CDC. Purple Runway First Annual BreakThrough Summit will provide resources for attendees to build self-worth, transform trauma and reconnect themselves emotionally, mentally and physically. The evening will conclude with the annual fashion show with fashion designers to include Rosendorf/Evans, Nicteel Design and other surprise designers that will wow attendees with women empowerment at the forefront.

Gigi McMillian believes launching the summit is the only way to get ahead of the current conversation on domestic violence and intimate partner abuse, “When we as individuals focus on nurturing our own health, wellness, and self-worth, we can build community and help support others to overcome. This is the only way to enable everyone to live their best and happiest life in spite of any trauma they’ve endured from childhood and beyond,” stated Gigi.
Each year, Purple Runway gears its fundraising efforts toward local organizations who have dedicated themselves to uplifting survivors. This year the event will focus on The Bernie House, a non-profit providing housing for survivors. In addition, fundraising efforts will go to iTHRIVE Sisterhood, the sister organization of Purple Runway that focuses on providing ongoing education around emotional and mental health.
This year’s Purple Runway partners include public relations agency, ANJPR Consulting, LLC., Rosendorf/Evans, Kamisol Style Consultancy, and Bravo Films amongst others. The event will also include Congresswoman Jennifer Wexton, two time Emmy Award Winning videographer, Nestor Bravo, Emmy Award-Winning News Anchor, Debra Alfarone, and 93.9 WKYS Radio Host Deja Perez.
Long-time sponsor, Mercedes-Benz of Arlington, serves as the venue sponsor for the 5th annual event. The BreakThrough Summit is set to take place at 9:00 AM-2:00 PM. Doors open for General Admission and Special Guest ticket holders at 6:30 PM. VIP Cocktail Party for VIP ticket holders is from 5:00-6:30 PM.
